The PADI Drift Diver specialty is perfect for divers who want to learn how to dive safely and relaxed in currents . Instead of swimming against the current, during a drift dive you simply let yourself be carried along by the water β as if you were flying underwater.
With the right techniques, diving in currents becomes not only safe, but also one of the most relaxed and spectacular ways to dive .
What does the specialty entail?
During the Drift Diver course, you learn how to correctly plan and execute dives in currents.
You will learn, among other things:
π Diving in different types of currents
π€Ώ Check your position and buoyancy while drifting
π Use a surface buoy (SMB / DSMB)
π₯ Go drift diving with a buddy and dive team
π Plan drift dives with boat support
The course usually consists of 2 drift dives , during which you gain experience in currents and learn how to use them to your advantage.
