SSI Independent Diving Specialty

Do you want more independence and responsibility while diving? With the SSI Independent Diving Specialty, you will learn how to safely and well-prepared plan and execute independent dives. This course is intended for experienced divers who want to further develop their skills and organize their dives even better.

The specialty is offered by Scuba Schools International and is aimed at divers who want to take their self-reliance and planning to a higher level.

What does this course entail?

During the Independent Diving course, you will learn how to prepare for and execute a dive independently and responsibly. You will work on, among other things:

  • Planning independent dives

  • Gas management and redundancy (backup systems)

  • The use of additional safety equipment

  • Risk analysis and decision-making before and during a dive

  • Improving navigation and situational awareness

  • Procedures for solving problems independently

The course consists of theory and several practical training dives , in which you learn to dive with a greater degree of independence.

Conditions to start

To start the SSI Independent Diving Specialty , you must:

  • Be certified at least Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have at least 75 logged dives
